Chisinau Airport has reopened the open tender process for the renovation and expansion of the passenger terminal building; the total cost of the work is estimated at 157.64 million lei
As noted in a statement from the capital’s airport administration, the project involves a partial redesign of the existing facilities and their expansion to modernize the airport’s infrastructure and adapt it to growing passenger traffic. All interested economic operators are invited to participate in the open procurement procedure. Detailed information on the terms of participation can be found at: https://achizitii.md/ro/public/budget/20562580. The Chisinau Airport terminal modernization project will be fully funded from the airport’s own revenues, and the work is planned to be carried out in phases, without disrupting current operations. As a reminder, the Chisinau Airport administration announced an open tender in early November 2025 for work on the reconstruction of the existing airport passenger terminal complex, including the adjacent territory and access roads, and utility systems, with the aim of expanding the areas of passenger service facilities, including waiting lounges, through the addition of new structures, the redesign of existing ones, the modernization of the terminal complex’s engineering and technological equipment, passenger service equipment, and more. In mid-January 2026, the Chisinau Airport administration announced that it would relaunch the open tender for the reconstruction and expansion of the passenger terminal building, as the public procurement procedure regarding the reconstruction and expansion of the passenger terminal building is currently being optimized. This decision was adopted following an in-depth technical assessment of the project documentation conducted at the level of each department, as well as an analysis of the level of participation in the procedure. As a result, aspects requiring adjustments were identified to enhance the clarity, attractiveness, and competitiveness of the project. It was emphasized that the documentation will be updated and refined, after which the procurement procedure will be restarted: the information will be republished on both national and relevant international platforms to ensure broader participation by economic operators. The tender procedures announced in November were scheduled to be completed within two months, with the work itself to be carried out by the end of 2026. The airport administration noted at the time that, due to new circumstances, it would relaunch the tender after the documentation review was completed. The project will expand the airport’s passenger area, reduce congestion, enhance passenger comfort, and transform Chisinau Airport into a modern and efficient air hub. It was previously reported that the terminal expansion project was developed by the State Organization for Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Construction, and Housing (OATUCL) at the airport’s request, with the project design costing 6.5 million lei. The project involves reorganizing the check-in and baggage claim areas, constructing new departure zones, and implementing modern technologies such as FAST TRACK (to speed up and predict passenger flow), ABC Gates (automated passport control), and the integration of smart systems with self-service elements for baggage handling. The project will also expand the waiting areas and business lounge, and introduce additional amenities such as a covered terrace and shower facilities for passengers. It was previously reported that Chisinau Airport is investing over 700 million lei in the expansion of the passenger terminal. // 11.05.2026 — InfoMarket.
