Repairs to sections of the Soroca-Arionesti-Otaci road will be completed in 2026, providing residents of 23 settlements in northern Moldova with a road that meets European standards

As announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the construction site of this road was visited by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, who got acquainted with the progress of work and the level of implementation of the project. This project is financed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and includes the repair of the R14-R6 road –Codrul Nou-Soroca-Unguri-border with Ukraine, with a total length of 31 km, as well as the repair of the R8.1 – R8 – Arionesti – R14 road, the Arionesti–Otaci section, with a length of 9.4 km. A total of 225 workers and 122 pieces of equipment were involved in the construction of these two sections. At the site, Vladimir Bolea discussed with road builders the stages of work, including their organization during the cold season and planning for the next stages. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, work on the R14–R6 section (Codrul Nou–Soroca–Unguri–Ukrainian border) is almost 60% complete. Earthworks, roadside improvements, construction of drainage systems, paving of sidewalks in populated areas, and installation of protective barriers on completed sections have been carried out. Work on the roadway and completion of the remaining sections will continue in the near future. On the 9.4 km section of road between Otaci and Arionesti, work is almost 70% complete. Work is being carried out on the road structure and drainage systems, and the next stage involves applying the final layer of pavement, installing road signs, applying road markings, and installing metal safety barriers. As previously reported by InfoMarket, in July 2023 the National Roads Administration signed contracts worth €44 million with two contractors to repair sections of the Soroca-Arionesti-Otaci road. The construction and repair work will be carried out with funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which has provided a loan of €44 million. In particular, the Turkish company ONUR Taahhut Tasimacilik Insaat Ticaret Ve Sanayi A.S. will repair 31 km of the Soroca-Arionesti road (route R14: R6 –Codrul Nou-Soroca-Unguri-border with Ukraine). At the same time, 9.4 km of the road on the Arionesti-Otaci section (road R8.1: R8 – Arionesti – R14) will be repaired by the local company Rutador. // 14.01.2026 – InfoMarket.
