Moldova and the US will accelerate the implementation of the 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas power line construction project with a US grant of $130 million
This was discussed during meetings held by Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu in Washington with senior representatives of the US State Department. According to the Ministry of Energy, the parties discussed accelerating cooperation in the construction of the 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas overhead power line, as well as continuing the modernization of the national power system. The discussions focused on the priorities of bilateral cooperation, continued US support for reforms in Moldova's energy sector, continued consolidation and modernization of the national energy system, and attracting US private investment in national and regional energy projects. Dorin Junghietu emphasized the importance of strengthening the Moldovan-American strategic partnership in the field of regional energy security. In turn, the American side confirmed its support for Moldova in strengthening energy security and implementing advanced solutions for managing complex situations in the field of cybersecurity. The central topic on the agenda was the acceleration of cooperation on the construction of the 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas overhead power line, a strategic project for the full integration of Moldova's energy system with the European market. The total length of the line will be about 190 km, of which 70 km will be in Moldova and 120 km in Romania. This will be the third 400 kV power line between the two countries.
