Ukraine proposes that Moldova increase gas volumes in its underground gas storage facilities and is prepared to expand trade and economic cooperation and develop border infrastructure to simplify border crossings and increase trade
This was stated by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during a briefing in Kyiv with Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. The head of the Ukrainian Cabinet noted that the talks confirmed the high level of trust between the countries and the parties' determination to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. Yulia Svyrydenko stressed that Moldova is an important neighbor and partner for Ukraine, with which it is following the path of European integration. The Ukrainian Prime Minister expressed confidence that this partnership will continue within the framework of the European Union, whose early accession is an important goal for both countries. Yulia Svyrydenko noted that she had discussed with Alexandru Munteanu the key priorities for expanding trade and economic cooperation. The parties are determined to conduct an active, substantive, and regular dialogue, coordinate plans, and resolve existing issues within the framework of the joint Moldovan-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. The Ukrainian Prime Minister stressed that Moldova is an important partner for her country, including in the field of transport, and the parties agreed to continue developing border and transport infrastructure, which should simplify and speed up border crossing, customs and border control for citizens, as well as promote trade and facilitate transit. According to her, the parties discussed the project to build a bridge across the Dniester River in Cosauti-Yampil and will discuss this issue in detail later. Yulia Svyrydenko noted that Ukraine also highly appreciates the fact that Moldovan companies store gas in Ukrainian storage facilities. She proposed that Moldova increase the volume of gas stored in Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities, given that they offer the lowest tariffs in Europe, the facilities themselves are secure, and there is potential for cooperation in this area. The Ukrainian Prime Minister said that there is an agreement to hold a trilateral meeting between Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine in April to expand cooperation in the areas of security, transport, logistics, and energy within the framework of the so-called Odessa Triangle. Yulia Svyrydenko noted that during the meetings between representatives of the Moldovan and Ukrainian governments at the level of relevant ministers, discussions will continue to strengthen cooperation between the parties and enhance regional security. // 10.02.2026 – InfoMarket.
