The US is investing $130 million in the construction of the Straseni-Gutinas power line, which will directly connect Moldova with Romania and the European network
This was announced on Wednesday before a government meeting by Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who reported on an important step for Moldova's energy security and announced the US government's investment in the construction of the Straseni-Gutinas power line. "Thanks to a $130 million investment from the US government, we will build the Straseni-Gutinas high-voltage line. This 190 km line will directly connect Moldova with Romania and the European network. I thank the US government for this investment in Moldova's European future," the Moldovan Prime Minister emphasized. According to him, while previously not a single brick had been laid and not a single electrical wire had been laid to free Moldova from blackmail and threats, in just four years, thanks to strong partnerships, Moldova is building its true independence. "Thus, after the Chisinau-Vulcanesti power line, which will be ready this year, we will have two more high-voltage lines, one of which, located in the northern part of the country, the Balti-Suceava power line, is in the design stage, and the second, in the central part of Moldova, Straseni-Gutinas," announced Prime Minister Dorin Recean. Earlier it was reported that the construction of the 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas power line and the modernization of the power plant in Straseni may be declared projects of national importance. According to the technical and economic justification of the project, the preliminary route of the new power line will pass through 25 settlements in the Straseni, Calarasi, Nisporeni, and Hincesti districts. Previously, the construction of the 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas high-voltage power line was planned to be financed by US grant funds under the Moldova Conectată program, which was a larger program of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to strengthen Moldova's energy security and connect Moldova's energy infrastructure to Europe. However, questions arose regarding US funding for this and other projects after the new administration in Washington decided to suspend funding for all programs through USAID. // 17.09.2025 — InfoMarket.
