A new 22 MW photovoltaic power plant with an energy storage system will be built in the village of Zimbreni, Ialoveni district
The government has adopted the relevant decision. According to the Ministry of Energy, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the construction of a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 22 MW, equipped with an energy storage system with a capacity of 16,512 MWh. The power plant will be located in Zimbreni on an area of 18 hectares. The investment will be made by T.P.I.-PHARM, which has submitted the necessary documentation to the ministry to obtain a construction permit. According to Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu, Moldova has all the prerequisites to strengthen its energy independence by using its own resources. According to him, there were months when almost 40% of energy consumption was covered by renewable sources. On the other hand, it is also extremely important to invest in energy storage systems that ensure grid stability and consumption efficiency. “In this regard, we will soon launch a second tender for the construction of renewable energy parks and electricity storage systems,” the head of the Ministry of Energy emphasized. It should be noted that the installation of power plants with a capacity of more than 20 MW or the increase in the capacity of an existing plant requires government approval. These investments complement Moldova's ongoing efforts to expand its renewable energy production capacity. Currently, the country has 784.09 MW of renewable power plants installed, of which about 530 MW are photovoltaic installations. There are 345 photovoltaic parks operating at the national level, as well as 7,252 prosumers – citizens and economic agents who have installed photovoltaic panels for their own consumption under net metering and net billing mechanisms. // 10.09.2025 – InfoMarket.
