Moldova’s local councils have already approved 512 decisions on the voluntary merger of communes as part of the local public administration reform
According to the government, Ungheni District has been one of the most active regions, where 32 communes decided to merge. One of the formed clusters will unite Ungheni, Zagarancea, Mănoilești, Valea Mare, Florițoaia Veche, Cetireni, Unțești, and Morenii Noi. Together, these settlements will receive over 151 million lei for development. In the Anenii Noi District, the merger process was initiated by 19 mayors, while in the Cimislia District, the mayors of the villages of Javgur, Ialpujeni, Hirtop, Gradiste, and Vale Perjei are discussing the creation of a joint mayoralty, the location of the administrative center, and priority projects. After the merger, these settlements can expect to receive approximately 20 million lei. In the Basarabeasca District, the villages of Carabetovca, Abaclia, Sadaclia, Iordanovca, and Iserlia are working on a joint development model based on administrative efficiency and the improvement of public services. Similar processes are underway in the Dubasari District, where local authorities are discussing the creation of voluntary association clusters. As a reminder, settlements that decide to merge their administrations will be eligible for financial assistance of 3,000 lei per resident. The government noted that the voluntary merger procedure has been simplified, and participating municipalities will receive the necessary support.
