In recent years, Moldova has become one of the world's top 20 largest exporters of plums, nuts, cherries, apricots, apples, and grapes, and Moldovan fruits occupy a prominent place on store shelves in Europe and around the world - Alexandru Munteanu
The Prime Minister made this statement while speaking at the Fruit Business conference in Moldova, organized by the Moldova Fruct fruit producers and exporters association. The event brought together over 300 producers, exporters, experts, and technology providers from the Moldovan fruit sector. The conference, now in its 11th year, provides a platform for dialogue, exchange of experiences, and business solutions for every link in the value chain, from production to export. The Prime Minister noted that in recent years, Moldova has become one of the world's top 20 largest exporters of plums, nuts, cherries, apricots, apples, and grapes. According to the Prime Minister, this success is due to farmers' investments in modern orchards, advanced technologies, and post-harvest infrastructure, as well as the opportunities offered by the European market. "The European Union is becoming an increasingly important market for Moldovan fruit year after year. Our farmers have demonstrated their ability to consistently supply the highest quality produce in ever-increasing volumes. Moldovan fruit occupies a prominent place on store shelves in Europe and around the world, and Moldovan farmers are among the most respected and competitive producers," the Prime Minister stated. He also noted that the government will continue to work to ensure expanded market access, develop the irrigation system, stimulate investment in processing, promote domestic produce, and improve the competitiveness of agricultural products. "We need you to become leaders in this process, and we will be your reliable partners. When you have profits, communities prosper, budgets grow, and the name Moldova becomes synonymous with quality," stated Alexandru Munteanu. In turn, the EU Ambassador to Moldova, Iwona Piórko, noted that fruit production is vital to the Moldovan economy, and the EU is a key market for plums, grapes, and cherries. Apple exports have also increased significantly in recent years. "As Moldova moves closer to the EU, we count on the government's ability to implement EU legislation for the benefit of Moldovan farmers. The EU stands for high quality standards, market integration, business competitiveness, and unlocking Moldova's growth potential, ensuring fair incomes for all producers," the EU Ambassador noted, wishing Moldovan producers fruitful work. Conference participants discussed export development and market diversification, current trends in fruit cultivation technologies, modern solutions for improving quality, and measures to enhance resilience to climate change. // 27.11.2025 — InfoMarket.
