
The airport in Marculesti will be modernized and may become a regional logistics hub for cargo and passenger transportation
This was announced by Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, who paid a working visit to Markulesti Airport together with State Secretary Mircea Păscăluță and representatives of relevant institutions. During the visit, officials assessed the current state of the airport's infrastructure and discussed the investments needed to modernize the airport. At the same time, the next steps for starting the restoration work were decided. Representatives of airlines and the tourism industry also took part in the discussions, and they were consulted on the launch of future commercial flights and opportunities to attract investment in the development of this strategic location. “The airport in Marculesti has the potential to become a regional logistics hub for cargo transportation. Its transformation into a modern airport is a strategic goal that will support the economic development of the northern region and contribute to the competitiveness of the aviation sector in Moldova. We are committed to bringing safe and efficient transport services closer to people, creating new opportunities for local development,” said Vladimir Bolea. According to him, the modernization project includes the restoration of the runway, the modernization of the lighting system, and the reconstruction of the terminal. These investments will subsequently enable commercial passenger and cargo flights to be operated.
