Contracts were signed in Chisinau on February 7 to develop feasibility studies for the construction of 4 new bridges over the Prut River for a total amount of RON 4.4 million

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova and the Ministry of Transport of Romania reported this, noting that it is a feasibility study for the construction of 4 new bridges across the Prut River: Costesti-Stinca, Leova-Bumbata, Leca-Falciu and Barboieni-Raducaneni. They will connect Moldova with Romania, continuing the process of strengthening ties between the two states in order to improve transportation infrastructure and facilitate access to the European Union. The contracts were signed on the sidelines of a meeting of the Moldovan-Romanian working group in the transport sector, held in Chisinau on February 5-7. The financing documents were signed between the Romanian National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration and LIKE CONSULTING, the winner of the tender, which will carry out these feasibility studies. A total of 4 feasibility study contracts have been signed and will be financed from the Romanian state budget. The feasibility study is necessary to evaluate all technical and economic aspects necessary to start the construction works. Their duration will be about 12 months. The feasibility studies for each facility will have to include the construction of a new road bridge, an access road to the existing infrastructure, and a border control point. The value of each feasibility study contract is 1.1 million Romanian lei (without VAT). At the ceremony of signing the contracts, Moldovan Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Vladimir Bolea said that these projects are another significant step in the relations between Moldova and Romania. They will contribute to the development of the transportation infrastructure, strengthening the historical and economic ties between the two countries. “We want these bridges to facilitate citizens' mobility and access to European transportation networks. This is a real first step towards the rapprochement of Moldova's infrastructure with that of Romania, and this process will continue with the same scope in the future,” Vladimir Bolea said. For his part, the State Secretary of the Romanian Transport Ministry, Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu, said that this is an important event from the perspective of relations between Moldova and Romania. “We are entering a new era of transport development along the Prut. We have signed contracts for the first stage of designing these bridges. We will continue to develop rail, sea and air infrastructure, integrating them to make Moldova competitive in the European area. European funds will continue to contribute to the development of the infrastructure, increasing Moldova's competitiveness,” Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu said. It is planned that the 4 new bridges across the Prut, which will be built after the completion of the feasibility study, will ensure the increase of transport capacities between the two states and will contribute to the connection of Moldova's road infrastructure with Romania and, indirectly, with the EU transport networks. Moreover, the construction of these bridges will contribute to the further economic rapprochement of Moldova with Romania and the European Union. This year, it is also planned to auction the contract for the design and construction of a new bridge over the Prut River in Albita. The project will be financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The projects of modernization of road bridges over the Prut Sculeni (Moldova) - Sculeni (Romania) and Cahul (Moldova) - Oancea (Romania) will also be implemented. // 07.02.2025 - InfoMarket
