Moldova and Ukraine have discussed technical aspects related to the construction of the Cosauti-Yampil road bridge over the Dniester
The Moldovan embassy in Ukraine reported that the delegations' discussions took place in Mohyliv-Podilskyi. The meeting of the mixed commission was chaired by the State Secretary of the Moldovan Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Nicola Mindra, and the Deputy Head of State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, Viacheslav Didkivskyi. The delegations included representatives of various ministries, agencies and local public administration. No other details have been given yet. Earlier, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers set up a joint Ukrainian-Moldovan commission for the construction of a bridge over the Dniester in the Yampil-Cosauti area. The bridge will be a key link in the transportation corridor between Kyiv and Chisinau. In 2023, the Verkhovna Rada ratified an agreement between the governments of Moldova and Ukraine on the construction of a road border bridge crossing over the Dniester near the settlements of Yampil and Cosauts. The agreement on the construction of the bridge was reached at the meeting of the presidents of the two countries Maia Sandu and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in 2021. The total length of the bridge will exceed 1.4 km. It will have two lanes for car traffic with sidewalks on both sides. As previously noted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova, the construction of the Cosauti-Yampil bridge will facilitate economic ties not only between Moldova and Ukraine, but also between other countries. In particular, the bridge will connect the road network through the eastern part of Moldova with the TEN-T Trans-European Transport Network. This will lead to easier trade and mobility of citizens, and will enhance Moldova's role as a link between EU countries and neighboring states. The Ukrainian government was expected to finance the construction of the bridge and related infrastructure on its territory, estimated at 40 million euros, while Moldova will provide the construction of the adjacent infrastructure to the bridge on its territory together with a customs checkpoint, estimated at 20 million euros. Earlier it was planned that the construction of the bridge could be completed by the end of 2025. According to the feasibility study, about 4,600 passenger and cargo vehicles can use this bridge every day, and by 2041 the number may increase to 10,200 per day. // 31.01.2025 - InfoMarket
