Moldova and Romania will expand strategic cooperation in transport and infrastructure and implement new projects in this area
This was announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, noting that within the framework of the QUINT ministerial meeting held yesterday in Chisinau, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea met with a delegation of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, headed by the Secretary of State Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu. The talks were also attended by the Secretaries of State for Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Mircea Pascaluța and Nicolae Mindra. The agenda of the talks included issues of expanding cooperation in the field of transport and infrastructure. In particular, the electrification of the railway section on the Iasi-Chisinau route, the introduction of coordinated customs control in Ungheni, the restoration of the railway section in Valeni and the resumption of the railway point in Falciu, as well as the resumption of passenger train traffic on the Cahul-Galati route were discussed. Vladimir Bolea stressed the importance of advancing the construction of 4 cross-border bridges across the Prut River: Costesti (Moldova) - Stinca (Romania); Leova (Moldova) - Bumbata (Romania); Leca (Moldova) - Fălciu (Romania); Barboieni (Moldova) - Raducaneni (Romania). "These bridges will contribute to increasing Moldova's connectivity with the European TEN-T transport networks and eliminating bottlenecks at border crossing points. In this way, we will increase the capacity between the two countries, smoothing and optimizing the flow of trucks," said Vladimir Bolea. The construction of the Ungheni road bridge, which will connect the road infrastructure of the two countries: the Targu Mures - Iasi - Ungheni - state border highway (on the territory of Romania) and the R1 national road Chisinau - Ungheni - border with Romania (on the territory of Moldova), was also discussed. The parties also discussed the development of the cargo hub at the Giurgiulesti port, including the implementation of modern technical solutions to optimize loading and unloading operations, ensuring an efficient flow of transport. In addition, the issues of automation and digitalization of rail transport services and Romania's participation in this process were discussed, as well as the cooperation between the State Enterprise Moldovan Railways and Informatica Feroviară, a branch of the Romanian National Railways Company. The officials agreed to jointly support these initiatives for sustainable transport development, both at bilateral and regional level, emphasizing the long-term benefits of these projects for the citizens of both countries.// 14.01.2025 – InfoMarket.
