Three companies from Moldova, Ukraine and Romania have applied for the construction of the first highway bridge over the Prut River in Ungheni.

State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Transport Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu announced this, noting that this bridge is part of the project for the construction of a modern highway Unirii A8. In particular, the participants in the tender for the construction of the bridge over Prut in Ungheni are: consortium Automagistral Pivden (Motorway South) - SC Perfect Consult Europe (Ukraine-Romania), Ness Proiect Europe (Romania) and Comsales Grup (Moldova). It is planned that the new bridge over Prut will be 261.2 m long and will have 2 lanes in each direction + sidewalks. The width of the bridge will be 13 m (stage I) + 11.25 m (stage II), and the carriageway will be 8 m wide. A part of the carriageway connecting the bridge with the road will also be constructed. The border crossing point will be equipped with parking lots for oversized vehicles, cars and enclosed spaces for thorough inspection of cars and trucks. The contract period will be 24 months, of which 6 months will be for design and 18 months - for execution. The source of financing will be grants from European funds worth more than 156 million Romanian lei, excluding VAT. The bridge over the Prut near Ungheni will connect the road infrastructure of Moldova and Romania: the highway Târgu-Mureş - Iasi - Ungheni - state border (on the territory of Romania) and the national highway R1 Chisinau - Ungheni - border with Romania (on the territory of Moldova). Earlier it was reported that the total cost of the construction of the bridge, which will connect the city of Ungheni in Moldova and the commune of Ungheni in Romania, is 33 million euros. The Romanian authorities announced earlier the approval of EU funding of 16.5 million euros for the construction of a highway bridge over the Prut. The project will be financed through the Connecting Europe Facility, the EU's transport, digital and energy program. The works will start in 2024. // 02.02.2024 - InfoMarket
