The EBRD will grant Moldova a loan totaling 150 million euros to co-finance the Moldova Roads Rehabilitation V project.
This is stipulated by the relevant loan agreement, which was signed in London by Moldovan Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu and Director of the Eurasia Infrastructure Department of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Ekaterina Miroshnik. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the EBRD loan of 150 million euros represents 50 per cent of the co-financing of the Moldova Roads Rehabilitation V project, while the rest of the sum is allocated by the European Investment Bank. The investment is meant for the rehabilitation and modernization of the M2 road, the second section of the bypass around Chisinau, by widening it to 4 lanes, with an estimated length of 7 km. This road section is an important component of the Chisinau ring road, as well as one of the busiest roads in the country. Also, about 85 km of the M1 road, border with Romania - Leuseni - Chisinau - Dubasari - border with Ukraine, will be repaired with the money provided. "The road sector is a gateway for the exchange of goods and passengers between Moldova and the EU. These two national roads are part of the TEN-T trans-European transport network and are of national and strategic importance both for optimizing road traffic and improving Moldova's connectivity with the EU," the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development said. // 24.01.2024 - InfoMarket.
