The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Moldova on the construction of a highway bridge over the Dniester River in the Cosauti-Yampil area.

While commenting on the approval of this draft law, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the bridge will become a key element of the Kyiv-Chisinau transport corridor, will provide Ukrainian exporters with a convenient route to south-eastern Europe and will allow them to increase export volumes. It should be noted that the agreement on the construction of the Yampil-Cosauti bridge was reached at a meeting between the presidents of the two countries, Maia Sandu and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in 2021. The total length of the bridge will exceed 1.4 kilometers. It will have two lanes for car traffic with sidewalks on both sides. The Moldovan Parliament has already ratified the agreement on July 31. As Moldovan Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu noted, the construction of the Cosauti-Yampil bridge will facilitate economic ties not only between Moldova and Ukraine, but also between other countries. In particular, the construction of the bridge will connect the road network through the eastern part of Moldova with the trans-European road network TEN-T. This will lead to easier trade and mobility of citizens, as well as increase Moldova's role as a link between EU states and neighboring countries. The Government of Ukraine will finance the construction of the bridge and related infrastructure on its territory, estimated at 40 million euros, while Moldova will provide the construction of the adjacent infrastructure to the bridge on its territory along with a customs checkpoint, estimated at 20 million euros. The construction of the bridge should be completed by the end of 2025. According to the feasibility study, this bridge can be used by about 4,600 passenger and cargo vehicles per day, and by 2041 the number may increase to 10,200 per day. // 09.08.2023 - InfoMarket.
