The World Bank mission assessed the implementation of the Local Roads Improvement Project in Moldova estimated at $80 million.

The progress of the project was discussed in a series of online conferences held with the participation of the State Roads Administration, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure and contractors. The parties reviewed the stage of implementation of contracts financed by the World Bank, the progress of road works planning and implementation of contracts for the maintenance of national roads. They also assessed the progress of measures related to monitoring the process of road repairs. In particular, they discussed the level of implementation of the scope of work on the renovation of 12.5 km - part of Corridor 13.2, passing through the village of Pirlita (Ungheni district) and the village of Milesti (Nisporeni district), as well as about 10 km - part of Corridor 8.3, which crosses the settlements of Hirbovat, Sverida and Oniscani of Calarasi district. To improve roads within these corridors, the World Bank provided a loan totaling over 185 million lei. The State Roads Administration also informed the WB mission about the status of road works for which contracts were signed in 2020 and which began in March this year. Among them, a project for the improvement of 36.5 km of a part of Corridor 10, which crosses the villages of Chistelnita, Scorteni (Telenesti district), Meseni, Ignatei, Peciste, Pripiceni-Razesti, Pripicheni-Curchi and Trifesti (Rezina district); more than 34 km of Corridor 16, which crosses the settlements of Pojareni, Costesti, Zimbreni, Horesti and Tipala of the Ialoveni district and about 11 km of Corridor 13.1, which passes through the village of Pirlita and the Alexeevca commune of the Ungheni region. The total cost of repairing corridors 10 and 13.1 exceeds 448 million lei, and Corridor 16 - about 363 million lei, co-financed from the Road Fund. During the discussions, it was decided that the WB experts will develop a summary of the mission meetings and an analysis of the activities of the parties on the implementation of the Local Roads Improvement project. Let us recall, the Agreement on the implementation of the World Bank Local Roads Improvement Project was signed at the end of April 2016 and is estimated at $80 million. These funds were allocated to the Government of Moldova for the modernization of local roads with Road Fund’s co-financing totaling $6.3 million. // 29.04 .2021 - InfoMarket
