The Moldovan government has increased funding to support families and is expanding the network of daycare centers
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu made this announcement at the 2026 Family Festival, which took place last weekend under the theme “Families, Inequalities, and Child Well-being.” The Prime Minister emphasized the central role of the family in preserving identity, solidarity, and social cohesion, and confirmed that support for families, children, parents, and the elderly remains a priority for the government. According to him, the one-time childbirth allowance has been increased to 21,886 lei, and a monthly payment of 1,000 lei is provided for each child under the age of 2. At the same time, the government is expanding access to early childhood education services. For 2026–2027, plans are in place to create over 5,000 new spots in daycare centers, with the budget allocated for these purposes increased from 18 million to 385 million lei. In addition, the expansion of social support measures for families continues. Specifically, high school students are provided with free meals, mothers have been given the opportunity to return to work earlier without losing their child care allowance, and fathers can now take paternity leave. There is also a provision allowing parents to split the leave period between them. To mark International Family Day, more than 100 events were held across the country focusing on children’s well-being, inclusion, and social solidarity, while the Family Festival featured creative workshops, interactive spaces for children and parents, entertainment and educational zones, and a concert. // 18.05.2026 — InfoMarket.
