Moldova has simplified the temporary import of vehicles for diaspora citizens
The parliament adopted the corresponding law in two readings. This legislative initiative aims to address an existing gap in the regulation of the temporary import of vehicles. The bill clarifies the temporary import regime for vehicles, allowing them to be exported from the country by persons other than those who imported them. This legislative initiative aims to clarify the procedures for removing vehicles imported under temporary importation from the customs territory, including in cases where this is carried out by a person other than the one who imported the vehicle. The current regulatory framework allows vehicles to be exported from the customs territory only by those who imported them, which in practice causes difficulties, including blocking, exceeding deadlines, and the risk of sanctions. Implementation of these new provisions will prevent situations in which a vehicle formally remains blocked in the customs territory due to the fact that the person who imported the vehicle is unable to remove it from the customs territory. During the second reading, the government proposed an amendment to the Customs Code concerning the activities of economic agents in the former Tvardita Free Economic Zone. The amendment extends the deadline for liquidating assets and returning to normal operations by another 75 days. This provision will come into force on May 11. Meanwhile, legislative provisions concerning the new customs clearance procedure for vehicles will come into force on September 1. // 07.05.2026 – InfoMarket.
