Moldova will promote religious tourism through the European RESPECTS project

In particular, the European RESPECTS (Religious, Spiritual and Pilgrimage European Cultural Tourism with Sustainability) project was officially launched on June 27 in Chisinau with the aim of promoting religious tourism as a form of sustainable cultural tourism in less developed regions of Europe. Moldova is participating in this project through the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration, which offers a 4-5-day national religious route that includes 10 Orthodox monasteries in the Calarasi, Straseni, and Orhei districts. It can be covered on foot, by bicycle or by local transport, and the aim of the route is to make the most of the spiritual, natural and rural heritage of the regions it passes through. During the presentation of the RESPECTS project, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the National Tourism Office emphasized the importance of religious tourism as a strategic direction for diversifying the country's tourism offer. It is planned that the integration of the route into the NeamPornit campaign and digital platforms such as Village Travel Bot will ensure effective promotion both nationally and internationally. The National Tourism Office noted that the RESPECTS project aims to preserve sacred heritage, digitize tourism offerings, promote local products, and involve rural communities in sustainable tourism activities. It is emphasized that thanks to this initiative, Moldova is taking an important step in the responsible assessment of religious heritage and its integration into European spiritual tourism networks. // 27.06.2025 — InfoMarket.
