Almost 4,200 families in Moldova have replaced their old household appliances with more energy-efficient new ones during the current phase of the government's EcoVoucher program
The Ministry of Energy reported this, noting that the head of the Ministry, Dorin Junghietu, spoke on Friday with several families of beneficiaries of the government's EcoVoucher program, implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy and the Ministry of Energy. The appliance voucher program offers vulnerable households the opportunity to reduce electricity consumption and costs by replacing old appliances with new, energy-efficient ones. Under the current session of the program, up to 32 thousand Moldovan households will be able to replace their washing machine or refrigerator with government subsidies of up to 70% of their cost. So far, 4184 vouchers have been used. The Minister of Energy urged the beneficiaries to choose household appliances with a higher energy consumption class, indicated in the energy label on a scale from A to G. In Moldova, energy labeling is applied to a number of products with energy impact, and next week the government will approve rules for 5 more products. These rules are important for Moldova because they will reduce energy consumption in the residential sector, which accounts for about half of final energy consumption. The replacement of energy efficient appliances will also contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Moldova by 268 thousand tons of carbon dioxide. The vouchers are distributed among large families and persons over 63 years of age. To be eligible to participate, beneficiaries must be registered in the Energy Vulnerability Information System. They will be notified by SMS or email about the availability of vouchers, which can be accessed through the compensatii.gov.md platform. To use the voucher, beneficiaries will have to surrender an old appliance of the same type, which will be replaced by a new, more energy efficient one. The current version of the program, with an estimated budget of €7.5 million, is financed by Norway through the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Moldova (E4M) project, initiated by the German government and implemented by GIZ Moldova to accelerate the energy transition in Moldova. This phase of the household appliances voucher program is implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy and the Ministry of Energy within the framework of the “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Moldova” (E4M) project, implemented by GIZ. The E4M project is initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is co-financed by the European Union, Germany, Norway and Denmark. // 21.03.2025 – InfoMarket
