In Moldova, the population's expenditures on medicines amount to about 100 euros per person per year, which is 5 times less than in the EU countries
This data was presented by Dragos Gutu, Director of the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, at a meeting of the Economic Press Club. According to him, in Romania, the population's expenditures on medicines amount to about 250 euros per year, while in the EU countries in general about 500 euros. At the same time, the US residents spend on average about 1,000 euros a year on medicines. According to him, the pharmaceutical market of Moldova has a potential for development, and now it is at a transitional stage of consumer demand. Thus, the population mainly spends money on essential drugs, and these are the drugs that dominate the market, and is passing to the stage of growth in the consumption of drugs (generics mainly) for the treatment of chronic diseases. The third tier is innovative, new drugs to treat rare or complex diseases, such as cancer. At the same time, Dragos Gutu noted that such consumption figures do not mean that they are too low. “For example, in Uzbekistan, consumption is estimated at 40 euros per inhabitant, and there consumer demand is oriented towards fighting symptoms, not diseases. We are at the second level. But there is still a large space for market development,” he said. At the same time, at the meeting, representatives of the pharmaceutical market noted that the pharmaceutical market in Moldova has its own specifics: the demand is falling, but due to the increase in prices for medicines, there is also an increase in the consumption of medicines. At the same time, a significant part of consumption is provided at the expense of the mandatory health insurance system. // 27.11.2024 - InfoMarket.
