Moldova celebrated National No Tobacco Day on the 3rd Thursday of November
According to the National Agency for Public Health, this year the theme of the National No Tobacco Day is “Breathe Freely – Choose a Life Without Tobacco Smoke”. The agency notes, citing WHO data, that about 1.3 billion people consume tobacco products worldwide, and tobacco kills more than 8 million people every year – about 22% of them die from complications associated with passive smoking. In Moldova, about 6,000 people die from tobacco use and its effects every year, while about 30% of adult citizens smoke in the country. The agency notes the growing popularity of electronic cigarettes and other tobacco and nicotine products among teenagers. Thus, in Moldova about 12.7% of children aged 13–15 use electronic cigarettes, although their harm, as the agency notes, has already been proven. To combat this problem, Moldova has launched information campaigns dedicated to quitting vapes and smoking. People who need help or advice on quitting tobacco addiction are advised to call the Republican Narcological Dispensary’s green line: 0 800 10001. // 21.11.2024 — InfoMarket
