The European Union and UNIDO support the development of the food safety sector in Moldova within the framework of a project worth 4 million euros
The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) reported this, noting that starting from 2023 the EU supports Moldova in expanding the national capacity to monitor residues in animal feed and animal products (pesticides, veterinary drugs, contaminants and banned substances). The project “Improving the standards compliance through increased national capacities for residue monitoring”, implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), is in close coordination with the National Agency for Food Safety and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. Since the launch of the project, efforts have been made to improve the capacity of ANSA laboratories, procuring new equipment, providing training and support to accredit the necessary methods to improve the capacity to test pesticides and veterinary drug residues. A study on “Analysis of the capacities of NQIS institutions and the demand for their services from the meat, poultry and dairy value chains in the Republic of Moldova” was also developed. These studies will contribute to the development of action plans and roadmaps adapted to the specific needs of Moldova, supporting efforts to implement the provisions of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) and preparing for accession to the EU single market. The UNIDO project will be implemented within 2 years, with a budget of about €4 million. It supports a number of strategic frameworks, including the European Green Deal and the Farm2Fork strategy. The project is aligned with the UNIDO Country Program for Moldova 2019-2023 and the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 // 01.11.2024 – InfoMarket
