Moldova launches the Education Quality Improvement Project worth $60 million.

During a press conference on the occasion of the project's launch, Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said that out of the total cost of the project, $40 million is a soft loan provided by the World Bank, while $20 million is grants provided by Moldova's partners. In particular, $10 million will be provided by the Dutch government through the Global Concessional Financing Facility, $4.5 million by the Global Partnership for Education, and $5 million by the Early Childhood Education Partnership. He recalled that the agreement on financing for the implementation of the project was ratified by the Parliament in late June. Within the project it is planned to repair 15 schools ($7.3 million) and 15 kindergartens ($2 million), invest about $2.3 million in furniture and equipment. 129 schools will receive grants ($36 thousand each) for didactic materials, training of specialists, acquisition of best practices, and organization of various events. At the same time, for the first time within the framework of the project it is planned to build 3 lyceums from scratch - presumably in the north, south and center of Moldova; it is yet to be determined. About $16 million will be allocated for the construction of these educational institutions and $1.6 million for their maintenance. 200 more kindergartens will also receive a standard package of assistance under the project in the form of continuous training of educators and exchange of experience, equipment, etc. The project will be implemented in 2023-2029. Dan Perciun thanked the development partners for their assistance in the implementation of the project. For her part, Inguna Dobraja said that the WB will continue its partnership with the Moldovan authorities, including by contributing to the development of the education system, while the financial contribution of the WB and other partners in support of the sustainability and quality of education will be felt by both students and teachers. // 07.08.2023 – InfoMarket
