Moldova’s victims of Stalinist deportations receive lump-sum, annual and monthly assistance.

On the occasion of Stalinism Victims Day, which is celebrated on July 6, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection reminded about the assistance provided to victims of political repressions in Moldova. In 2023, 6,428 citizens, who have the status of rehabilitated victims of political repressions of 1917-1990, will receive annual financial assistance of 1,000 lei. This aid is provided through the Social Assistance Agency and can be requested from the territorial offices of Poșta Mpldovei within 3 months after the transfer of funds. These persons also receive a monthly state allowance, which was increased to 1,000 lei from April 1, 2023. These citizens also enjoy an extended list of rights and benefits: old age pensioners and persons with disabilities, who are victims of political repression, have the right to free medical assistance and free provision of some medicines, provided in the national programs; the right to free production and repair of dentures; the right to annual sanatorium-resort health improvement with a discount of 50% of the cost of the tour or free issue of a sanatorium tour once every 3 years. These citizens have priority for telephone installation and priority for enrollment in shelters with at least 25% of their pensions. Also, the rehabilitated victims of Stalin's deportations will have the right to receive a unique allowance to build or buy dwellings (up to 41,000 lei) or to restore dwellings (up to 12,500 lei). Today is the 74th anniversary of the largest wave of Stalinist deportations. On the night of July 5 to 6, 1949, Soviet authorities sent tens of thousands of Bessarabian peasants to penal labor camps in Siberia, confiscating their property. There were three waves of deportations between 1941 and 1951, and historians estimate that the total number of deportees from Bessarabia ranged from 80,000 to 120,000. On the occasion of Stalinism Victims' Day on July 6, solemn rallies and cultural-historical events were held throughout the country, and the national flag was lowered at all places in the country. // 06.07.2023 - InfoMarket.
