According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of disabled people in Moldova decreased by almost 4% over the year. At the same time, the number of children with disabilities increased from 10.4 thousand to 10.7 thousand people over the year, they make up 1.9% of the total number of children in the country. According to statistics, 57.8% of disabled people in Moldova have a pronounced form of disability, 26.7% have a medium form, and 15.5% have a severe form. About 37% of people with disabilities are aged 30-54, 32.8% are aged 55-64, 17.8% are over 65, 7% are 16-29 and 5.3% are under 15 years. In the structure of the disabled, the proportion of men is 52.6%. As of January 1, 2022, 67.8% of people with disabilities received disability pensions (113.9 thousand people), and 32.2% (54.1 thousand) received benefits (due to non-compliance with all conditions for appointment of pensions). According to the National Social Insurance House, as of January 1, 2022, the average disability pension was 1,736.9 lei (the average pension for all pensioners is 2,578.5 lei). Depending on the degree of disability, the average pension varied: 1281 lei for persons with a moderate degree of disability, 1864.3 lei for persons with a pronounced degree of disability and 2125.1 lei for persons with a severe degree of disability. Compared to January 1, 2018, the average disability pension increased by 51.1%, while the average pension per pensioner increased by 68.8%. For the participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident and former conscripts, the average disability pension amounted to 4,304.5 lei and, respectively, 1,925.5 lei. The average disability pension does not cover the subsistence minimum by an average of 19%. Herewith, the minimum disability pension as of April 1, 2022 ranged from 1139.4 to 1709.1 lei, depending on the degree, and it covered the subsistence minimum only by 52.9-79.3%. As of January 1, 2022, the average amount of the state social allowance for children with disabilities amounted to 1174.2 lei, an increase of 168.9% compared to January 1, 2018. For people who care for persons with a severe form of disability (13 thousand pers.), a special allowance for care and support is provided - its size is on average 1595.2 lei.
