According to a study conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics, in September 2021, the average gross salary in Moldova was 8,996.5 lei. More than 2/3 of employees received salaries of up to 10 thousand lei, and compared to September last year, the share of those receiving such salaries decreased by 5.6 percentage points. In particular, in September of this year, 25.1% of employees received a salary of 3,000 to 5,000 lei (their share decreased by 2 pp compared to September 2020), 22.8% received a salary of 7 thousand to 10 thousand lei (+1.6 pp), 18.9% - from 5 thousand to 7 thousand lei (-2.9 pp). About 6.4% of employees received less than 3 thousand lei per month (in September 2020 - 9.5%). At the same time, the share of employees with a salary of over 10 thousand lei increased: from 21.2% in September last year to 26.7% in September 2021 (+ 5.5 pp). In September this year, 15.4% of employees received salaries from 10 thousand to 15 thousand lei, 5.9% - from 15 thousand to 20 thousand lei, 5.4% - more than 20 thousand lei. The distribution by type of economic activity indicates the concentration of workers with low wages in the following areas: accommodation and catering services (11.5% of employees earn less than 3 thousand lei, every second - 3-5 thousand lei and 21.7% - 5- 7 thousand lei); art, recreation and leisure (5.5% of employees receive a salary of less than 3 thousand lei, every third - 3-5 thousand lei, 28.2% - 5-7 thousand lei); agriculture, forestry and fishing (9.3% of employees earn less than 3 thousand lei, 37.1% - 3-5 thousand lei, 25.6% - 5-7 thousand lei). The highest salaries are concentrated in three areas of activity. Thus, approximately 86.6% of workers in the ICT industry receive over 7 thousand lei, including 70.8% - over 10 thousand lei a month. Almost 86% of employees in the financial and insurance industry earn over 7 thousand lei, including 59.3% - over 10 thousand lei.
