
The Moldovan government approved measures to support low-income families during the cold season and increased the amount of assistance allocated to them during the cold season from 500 to 700 lei.
In particular, in the context of increasing tariffs for utilities (electricity, gas, firewood, coal), the Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft resolution that will expand the scope of the Social Assistance Program so that more poor families can receive assistance during the cold season. To this end, the multiplier for the guaranteed minimum monthly income was increased from 2.2 to 2.6 points, which is used to establish eligibility for assistance during the cold season. This will expand the income threshold for assessing eligibility for cold season assistance for low-income families. As a result of these changes, another 86 thousand low-income families will receive benefits during the cold season, from November 2021 to March 2022. Also today, the government approved a decree to increase the amount of assistance for the cold season from 500 to 700 lei, as well as the accessibility threshold for calculating points on the scale of indicators of well-being (proxy), up to 2.82 points.
