
In a year since the confirmation of the first case of COVID-19 infection in Moldova, 4,129 people have died, including 94 health workers.
According to official data, in just a year, 746,785 tests were made to detect coronavirus, in 26.2% of cases it was positive. Of the 195,602 infected, 172,242 people (88% of the total) recovered, and 4,129 people (2.1%) died from complications caused by the virus. According to statistics, 58.5% of those infected are women (including 870 pregnant women), and the mortality rate is slightly higher in men - about 51% of all deaths from complications caused by the coronavirus. Most of those infected (21%) and deaths (37%) are in the age group 60-69 years. Also, high morbidity statistics were registered in the population aged 50-59 years (20%), 30-39 years old (16.5%), 40-49 years old (16.3%). At the same time, many deaths were registered in the age category 70-80 years (28.8% of the total number of deaths), and the highest - in the category of the population over 80 years old, where every 7th person died from complications after COVID-19. According to the Ministry of Health, most of those infected (43.6%) and deaths (31.8%) were registered in Chisinau. Currently, a record number of citizens are being treated for coronavirus - 19,231 people, of which 4,121 are hospitalized.
