Work on the power substations in Vulcanesti and Chisinau must be completed by the end of May, or penalties will be imposed – the Ministry of Energy

This was stated by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu during a surprise visit to the Chisinau power substation, a key facility in the strategic project to construct the 400-kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line. During the visit, the Minister of Energy inspected the progress of work at the site and discussed it with representatives of the company responsible for the work, once again emphasizing the need to meet the established deadlines. He clearly outlined the contractors’ responsibilities and stressed that delays are unacceptable. “Work on the power substations must be completed by the end of May. Any deviation from the deadlines will result in the imposition of penalties. We cannot tolerate delays in a project of strategic importance for the country’s energy security,” the Minister of Energy stated. At the same time, he emphasized the need to accelerate the pace of work in the coming period. As noted by the Ministry of Energy, work is underway at the Chisinau substation on site preparation in the 400 kV zone, necessary to prepare the infrastructure for cable ducts. In parallel, assembly of the container for relay protection equipment continues, and in the 330 kV zone, adjustments are being made to the connections between the primary equipment. Once the container assembly is complete, the protective cabinets will be installed. At the Vulcanesti substation, most of the equipment has already been installed and connected, with the exception of the instrument transformers, which are currently being delivered. Work on the installation of cable ducts has also been completed, and the next stage will involve laying control cables and connecting them to the equipment. The actual construction of the overhead power line was fully completed ahead of schedule in November 2025, and comprehensive testing was conducted earlier this year—including under adverse weather conditions—to verify the functionality and stability of the infrastructure. The 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line, with a length of 157 km, passes through 8 districts and 35 settlements. The power line was built as part of a power system development project financed by the World Bank Group. The total cost of the project is €61 million, of which approximately €27 million was allocated for the construction of the power line. // 07.04.2026 – InfoMarket.
