Energocom reported that it had managed to fully cover all of Moldova’s commercial electricity needs as of March 27, but the risk of a shortage in the coming days remains
As noted in the state-owned cEnergocom’s statement, thanks to the joint efforts of Energocom, the Ministry of Energy, Moldelectrica, transmission system operators from Romania and Ukraine, and European and regional partners, the commercial capacity needed to cover the electricity consumption deficit in Moldova during the evening peak hours—from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.—was successfully reallocated. Following yesterday’s announcement regarding insufficient cross-border capacity for today, an extraordinary technical coordination meeting was held on Friday morning among the transmission system operators involved in the redistribution of cross-border transmission capacity (NTC) for today, after which emergency mechanisms were implemented to prevent blackouts during peak hours. Thus, a total of 11,649 MWh was procured today to meet Moldova’s electricity demand, of which 44.5% came from domestic sources (CHP plants and renewable energy sources), approximately 28.5% from bilateral import contracts, and nearly 27% came from purchases on neighboring countries’ (Romania and Ukraine) electricity trading platforms via intraday auctions (contracts for delivery within the current day) using the cross-border transmission capacity mechanism. Energocom noted that the situation remains unstable. Technical constraints on import capacity remain in place. Therefore, the risk of energy consumption not being met in the coming days cannot be ruled out. “Consumption estimates and necessary purchases for the following day are made daily, so any responsible consumption measure taken by every citizen directly contributes to maintaining the balance of the power system. We urge citizens to act with the utmost responsibility and use energy rationally during peak hours from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. to prevent an electricity shortage,” the state-owned company stated. // 27.03.2026 — InfoMarket.
