Gas tariffs for Moldovan consumers may be reduced after the completion of purchases of reserve gas stocks - Dorin Junghietu

The Minister of Energy told reporters that the authorities, through the state-owned company Energocom, have already purchased approximately 700 million cubic meters of natural gas, or more than 90% of the volumes needed for the 2025-2026 gas year, including winter season needs. Dorin Junghietu stressed that, in this way, the authorities are ensuring the security and uninterrupted supply of gas during the cold season. According to the Minister, reserve gas stocks still need to be purchased, after which tariffs will be revised. Dorin Junghietu noted that Moldova stores its reserve natural gas stocks in Romania and Ukraine. This amounts to approximately 47 million cubic meters, which needs to be increased to 50 million cubic meters. “Thus, by October 1, it is necessary to purchase 2.9 million cubic meters of gas, which will be distributed between gas storage facilities in Romania and Ukraine,” the Energy Minister said. According to him, these gas reserves are safe because they are stored underground. Dorin Junghietu noted that the figure of 700 million cubic meters of gas is an estimate of the gas demand for the right bank of the Dniester. // 10.09.2025 – InfoMarket.
