Electricity prices in Moldova cannot be reduced at present, as the electricity market in Romania will be liberalized on July 1, and fixed prices will no longer apply - Dorin Junghietu
The Moldovan Minister of Energy made this statement on TV8, where he spoke about fixed electricity prices and market liberalization in Romania. At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Energy noted that his statements were subsequently misinterpreted by some media sources and used for manipulative purposes, creating fake news. "I did not say that energy will become more expensive, but I explained why it cannot become cheaper now. And market liberalization in Romania has no direct impact on consumers in Moldova. I confirmed that from July 1, the electricity market in Romania will be liberalized, and fixed prices will no longer apply in Romania or Moldova. This means that the energy purchased by Energocom under bilateral contracts at 90 euros or 400 Romanian lei per MWh will now be approximately 50 RON more expensive. This represents approximately 40% of the energy imported from Romania. However, since the energy purchased by Energocom to date has been below the price ceiling set by National Agency for Energy Regulation, there are positive deviations from which the company will be able to cover these differences in the purchase price within the current tariffs. This is also a response to critics who have publicly called for a reduction in tariffs now," Dorin Junghietu emphasized. // 13.06.2025 – InfoMarket.
