The Government approved an amendment to the agreement with the EIB: EUR 30.8 million will go towards measures to interconnect the power grids of Moldova and Romania
The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft resolution on the start of negotiations and signing of Amendment No. 2 to the Financing Agreement between Moldova and the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed on December 20, 2017, on the implementation of the project to interconnect the power grids of Moldova and Romania. The amendment envisages the redirection of EUR 30.8 million to co-financing the construction of a new power transmission line with Romania through the construction of a 400 kV overhead power line Balti-Suceava, as well as the expansion of the 400 kV Balti Power Plant. "This amendment opens the way to the necessary financing to advance the process of integrating the Moldovan power system with the Romanian and European ones. The project includes not only the construction of a new power transmission line, but also the modernization of the internal infrastructure to increase the energy sustainability of the northern regions of the country," said State Secretary Cristina Pereteatcu at a Cabinet meeting. According to her, the amendment will allow financing specific actions: construction of a 400 kV Balti-Suceava power transmission line; expansion and modernization of the 400 kV Balti power plant; reconstruction of existing internal power transmission networks; technical assistance in the form of project consultations, including supervision and design. The amendment does not change the financial terms of the financing agreement and will enter into force after ratification by the parliament and official notification of the EIB on the completion of all necessary internal procedures.. // 11.06.2025 — InfoMarket.
