NAER stated that there are currently no prerequisites for reducing electricity prices for end consumers.
In particular, the National Agency for Energy Regulation reported that it took into account the statements that recently appeared in the public space regarding the price of electricity purchased by Energocom and the alleged lack of response from the institution regarding the adjustment of tariffs for consumers. In order to correctly inform the public, NAER reiterates that regulated prices for electricity supply are set based on projected annual costs, which include both periods with higher prices and periods with lower prices for imported energy. These tariffs do not change in accordance with monthly or seasonal fluctuations in the purchase price, but reflect the average annual value in accordance with the principles of predictability and stability provided by law. According to the current methodology, NAER intervenes to adjust regulated prices only in situations where there is a deviation of more than 5% from the cost of supply included in the price, a deviation that must be confirmed by the actual financial data of the regulated supplier. "Thus, a low price during the 1 month is not a sufficient basis for an automatic price reduction, since any adjustment is made on the basis of an objective, transparent and carefully substantiated analysis," NAER noted. It clarified that the energy regulator constantly monitors the real costs borne by regulated suppliers, and when there are clear prerequisites for an adjustment - upward or downward - the institution will intervene, including on its own initiative, in accordance with its legal powers. At the same time, NAER resolutely rejects tendentious statements that price decisions will be selective or arbitrary. The Agency notes that it carries out its activities in strict accordance with the legal framework and its mission to protect the interests of consumers, while ensuring the sustainable functioning of the energy market. NAER called for accountability in public communications, especially by public figures or political leaders, noting that making unfounded accusations does not contribute to constructive debate and risks misinforming public opinion. “NAER remains open to dialogue with all stakeholders and will continue to provide clear and verified information on developments in the energy sector,” the energy regulator said. // 03.06.2025 – InfoMarket.
