The government has approved an increase to 50 million cubic meters in the volume of gas to be stored as reserve supplies
According to a resolution approved by the Сabinet at a meeting on Wednesday, the volume of gas to be stored as reserve supplies will be increased from 47.1 million to 50 million cubic meters starting October 1. The necessary volume of gas to replenish reserves will be purchased by Energocom. As explained by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu, this measure is necessary to ensure the continuity and security of natural gas supplies to Moldova in the event of emergencies in the gas sector. According to the Natural Gas Law, gas reserves must be equal to consumption for at least 10 days, with one day of consumption equal to the average daily consumption for the previous winter period. In order to reduce the financial impact of creating gas reserves equal to at least 10 days' consumption of natural gas, it was decided to gradually build up gas reserves in accordance with the volumes set by the government, which correspond to at least 4 days' consumption starting from September 15, 2022, at least 8 days of consumption - from October 1, 2023, and at least 10 days of consumption - from October 1, 2024. The exact volume of natural gas that will be formed as reserve stocks starting from October 1, 2025, will increase by 2.6 million cubic meters - from 47.1 million cubic meters m (equivalent to 10 days of consumption for the period 01.12.2023-29.02.2024) to 49.7 million cubic meters (equivalent to 10 days of consumption for the period 01.12.2024-28.02.2025), according to calculations by the National Energy Regulatory Agency submitted to the Ministry of Energy. The resolution will enter into force upon publication in Monitorul Oficial (the Official Journal of Moldova), given the need for immediate application of regulations related to measures to ensure the country's energy security. // 21.05.2025 — InfoMarket
