The digital transformation strategy for the energy sector of Moldova will be launched soon – Ministry of Energy

This was announced by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Cristina Pereteatcu, speaking during her participation in the 11th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) - an event dedicated to the energy transition and the promotion of a "green" economy. The event was organized by the German Federation for Renewable Energies (BEE), the German Solar Association (BSW), the German Energy Agency (DENA) and Eclareon. The main topics were devoted to attracting financing for the energy transition, international partnerships and strategies for achieving global climate goals, including the phase-out of fossil fuels. On the sidelines of the event, Cristina Pereteatcu met with the Minister of Energy of Lithuania Žygimantas Vaičiūnas. During the discussions, an exchange of views took place on the best practices and solutions in the field of cybersecurity for the protection of critical infrastructures in the context of digitalization of the energy sector. Lithuania's experience in smart metering, which has made significant progress in this area, was also discussed. The parties also discussed potential joint projects on energy efficiency, including in public buildings. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Moldova noted that the experience of the Lithuanian authorities in the field of digitalization of the energy sector and the implementation of smart meters would be valuable for Moldova. "It is extremely important that our energy infrastructure is modernized to improve efficiency and reduce energy losses," Cristina Pereteatcu added. During a meeting with Ilyas Bakytzhan, Deputy Minister of Digitalization and Innovation of Kazakhstan, she presented the progress achieved in the implementation of the Sandbox mechanism to stimulate innovation in the energy sector of Moldova. The mechanism was approved by the Government of Moldova and represents an innovative regulatory framework that allows testing energy solutions in a controlled environment. As the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy noted, the Sandbox mechanism is an important initiative for developing innovative solutions in the energy sector. In a situation where almost all energy consumed in Moldova is imported, developing local solutions is important to increase energy independence and attract investment. Cristina Pereteatcu confirmed that the Sandbox, the first mechanism of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, will support the testing and implementation of innovative solutions in Moldova that will contribute to the modernization of the national energy sector. The Sandbox mechanism is supported by UNDP Moldova and a number of international partners - Denmark, Luxembourg, South Korea and Sweden. Another important point of the discussions was the Strategy for Digital Transformation of the Energy Sector of Moldova, which is to be launched soon. The strategy aims to modernize energy infrastructure, implement smart meters and strengthen cybersecurity in order to bring Moldova's energy sector into line with European standards. // 19.03.2025 — InfoMarket.
