Moldova's renewable energy capacity has grown 10 times since 2018 – the Ministry of Energy
Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu announced this during a visit to the village of Sireti, Straseni district, where he assessed the progress made by the local mayor's office in the energy efficiency sector and noted that the implementation of energy efficiency projects and the use of renewable energy sources is a priority for the government. While talking to the local authorities, the Minister of Energy highlighted one of the largest projects in the locality - a photovoltaic park supporting street lighting; it was implemented with the support of the National Center for Sustainable Energy. The photovoltaic park is a successful example of renewable energy integration, helping to both reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions. The 20 kW photovoltaic park provides street lighting for the village and, according to village mayor Leonid Boaghe, a project to expand it to 200 kW will allow other public facilities in the village to be covered by renewable energy. “Innovative solutions like those implemented in this locality help not only to save financial resources for the local budget, but also to protect the environment. If we implemented such measures at the national level, we could significantly reduce the electricity bills of local authorities,” Dorin Junghietu said. The Minister also emphasized that the implementation of similar projects in other Moldovan localities will help to save resources considerably and develop a more sustainable energy sector. And for this purpose, the government has introduced measures aimed at supporting citizens in reducing energy consumption even up to 50%. “We don't have our own resources, such as natural gas, but we can reduce the load on the national energy system. If we bring the energy efficiency of our buildings up to EU levels, we can save money by investing in efficiency measures and in renewable energy. Since 2018, the renewable energy capacity in Moldova has increased 10 times,” the Energy Minister added. Also in Sireti, he visited 2 kindergartens equipped with photovoltaic installations of 15 kW each, which allowed the local authorities to save 50% on electricity bills. At the same time, the mayor's office is implementing, under the European Village-2 program, a project for the construction of a 200 kW photovoltaic power plant, which will provide all public buildings in the locality with the necessary electricity. // 19.03.2025 - InfoMarket.
