Specific measures are being implemented in Moldova to ensure real energy independence and integration of more renewable energy sources into the energy balance – the Ministry of Energy

Carolina Novac, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy stated this while, speaking at the Green and Just Transition Summit held in Chisinau, an important event that brought together energy and climate change experts and leaders to discuss a “green and just transition”. The Summit focused on advancing sustainable and inclusive solutions in the energy sector to ensure an environmentally sustainable and socially just transition. According to the Energy Ministry, Carolina Novac said Moldova has made significant progress in reducing dependence on Russian energy and facilitating the transition to renewable energy sources, but continues to face vulnerabilities. She stressed that the government is implementing concrete measures to ensure real energy independence and integrate more renewable energy into the energy mix, while supporting vulnerable groups through decentralized energy solutions. For example, the Household Appliance Voucher Program, implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy and the Ministry of Energy under the E4M project, supports vulnerable households in replacing old household appliances with new, energy efficient equipment. The program covers up to 70% of the cost of new appliances, helping to reduce energy consumption, costs, carbon emissions and environmental protection. Discussions at the forum also focused on energy poverty in rural communities and how to make the green transition more inclusive. As noted, the Ministry of Energy is working on solutions to support vulnerable groups by stimulating domestic renewable energy production and developing decentralized energy solutions. These measures are designed to ensure access to renewable energy for all citizens. Another important topic of discussions was the involvement of civil society organizations and local communities in the energy transition. Carolina Novac stressed that these groups play an important role in promoting decentralized energy solutions that not only help democratize access to renewable energy, but also contribute to the economic and social development of communities. According to her, close cooperation between local authorities, civil society organizations and the private sector is crucial for the successful implementation of renewable energy projects. In addition, Carolina Novac discussed at the forum the steps taken by the government to support investments in energy infrastructure, including auctions for renewable energy capacity and energy efficiency financing measures. The government is also promoting initiatives to train renewable energy professionals to create new green jobs and support the development of this emerging sector. // 14.03.2025 - InfoMarket.
