Moldova will find financial resources from other external partners for the construction of the Straseni-Gutinas power transmission line if USAID fails to provide the promised money for this project - Dorin Recean

Moldovan Prime Minister said this in the context that the new administration in Washington decided to suspend the financing of all programs through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which had previously committed to finance the construction of this new high-voltage line connecting the Moldovan and Romanian energy systems. Dorin Recean expressed confidence that, at some stage, many USAID programs, which are suspended today, will resume their activity. “As for the development of the energy sector, which is our priority, we will find an alternative solution very soon. The other day, together with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Moldovan President Maia Sandu, we agreed on a two-year energy sustainability program, which provides financial means, including for such projects,” Dorin Recean said. As InfoMarket reported earlier, the construction of the 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas high-voltage transmission line is part of the Moldova Conectată (Connected Moldova) program, which is a larger USAID program to strengthen Moldova's energy security and connect Moldova's energy infrastructure with the European one. The 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas transmission line will reportedly be the third direct transmission line between Moldova and Romania and will be built with a U.S. grant through the U.S. Agency for International Development. According to preliminary data, the total length of the 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas transmission line will be 190 km, and USAID will finance the construction of about 70 km of the Moldovan part. Construction of the transmission line was planned to begin by the end of 2025, after a series of feasibility studies, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2029. On Moldovan territory, the overhead transmission line will be more than 70 kilometers long out of 190 kilometers. The construction of the new transmission line with Romania Straseni-Gutinas will use part of the US grant funds from a large total package of $300 million //07.02.2025 - InfoMarket.
