The Energy Community Secretariat will support the National Agency for Energy Regulation to continue reforms in the energy sector of Moldova

This was stated by the Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski, at a meeting with members of the Administrative Council of the National Agency for Energy Regulation. According to NAER, the discussions focused on Moldova's progress in transposing European legislation in the energy sector, consolidating the natural gas market, launching short-term electricity markets and aligning the national legislative framework with international standards. NAER Director General Veaceslav Untila noted that close cooperation with the Energy Community Secretariat was essential for achieving the strategic goals of the Moldovan energy regulator. "The technical assistance and experience provided by your team have made a significant contribution to the development of the Moldovan energy market and its integration into regional and European systems. In 2024, NAER received the highest rating from the institution you lead, which confirms our progress," he said. For his part, Artur Lorkowski congratulated NAER on the results achieved and the leading position among the regulatory authorities in the region. According to him, NAER's activities in 2024 demonstrate the professionalism of the team and a strong commitment to a competitive and transparent energy sector. "The regulatory framework implemented by NAER ensures transparency and competition in the national energy market in compliance with European standards," Artur Lorkowski emphasized. He reaffirmed the support of the Energy Community Secretariat for the continuation of reforms in the energy sector of Moldova, aimed, in particular, at: adjusting primary and secondary legislation to liberalize the market; transparent organization of tenders for the purchase of energy; increasing cross-border electricity generation capacities; ensuring strategic reserves of natural gas; taking additional measures to ensure security of supply in the face of geopolitical risks. NAER's management reaffirmed the institution's commitment to modernizing the energy sector and creating a stable and predictable regulatory framework that will attract local and international investment. As noted by NAER, the meeting that took place confirms the strong partnership between NAER and the Energy Community Secretariat, which is an important factor in accelerating Moldova’s integration into the European energy market. // 06.02.2025 — InfoMarket
