The Moldovan authorities are ready to supply wood, pellets, power generators and food products to the settlements of the Transnistrian region affected by the energy crisis and located along the perimeter of the security zone
This was stated by the President of Moldova Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian during meetings with local authorities from settlements located in the Security Zone. As noted, the government will continue to identify the best solutions to ensure access of Moldovan citizens to basic services and support for people affected by the energy crisis caused by Gazprom on the left bank of the Dniester. The parties discussed the actions already taken by the authorities, as well as those that need to be implemented to ensure access to electricity and natural gas. It was noted that since the beginning of the energy crisis, a number of necessary measures have been approved to ensure the supply of electricity and natural gas to consumers in a number of settlements in the Security Zone, which are under the control of the constitutional authorities, but connected to the energy infrastructure of the left bank of the Dniester. It was emphasized that by the decision of the Emergency Situations Commission of January 6, the village of Varnita, Anenii Noi district, and the village of Copanca, Causeni district, must be connected to the Premier Energy Distribution distribution grids. The operator will ensure the construction of new lines to these villages, and the Reintegration Policy Bureau will discuss options for interconnection with the distribution grids belonging to the electricity distribution company from the Transnistrian region. At the same time, 14 settlements will be integrated into the gas distribution grids of the licensed operators of Moldovagaz. According to Dorin Recean, central and local authorities are cooperating in the implementation of interconnection measures, but the work, including crossings over the Dniester, takes time to complete. Herewith, the government has already provided humanitarian aid, including fuel and generators, to support residents affected by the power outage in Varnita and Cocieri. Discussions on potential assistance are also ongoing with external partners. It was emphasized that the Moldovan authorities are still ready to supply wood, pellets, generators and food to the settlements of the Transnistrian region and those located along the perimeter of the security zone and affected by the energy crisis. The government is also working on projects to install biomass power plants, which will provide energy autonomy to state institutions, including schools, hospitals and kindergartens. Dorin Recean emphasized that since the beginning of the crisis, the Moldovan authorities have offered to organize gas purchases for the Transnistrian side, but were refused. "Tiraspol is not autonomous in its decisions. This crisis was caused by the Russian Federation to destabilize Moldova and use it in Russia's war against Ukraine," the Prime Minister said. "We are ready to help people affected by the crisis caused by the Russian Federation. "Gazprom has a contractual obligation to supply gas to Moldova until 2026. There is an alternative route for transporting it to Transnistria, but the Russian concern chose to violate the contract and stop supplies," Maia Sandu said. He noted that in the coming weeks, a number of settlements, including Varnita, will be connected to the power grids on the right bank of the Dniester. The work on connecting to the gas grids will take several months. In the meantime, the mayors will present to the central authorities the needs for wood and pellets for households and public buildings. During the visit, the officials visited the Romanita kindergarten, the theoretical lyceum in Varnita and the Asclepio multifunctional public center - institutions to which the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations sent electric generators. // 09.01.2025 – InfoMarket
