Moldova introduces for the first time differentiated electricity tariffs depending on hours of consumption – the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER)
In particular, NAER announced for the first time the introduction of differentiated prices depending on the hours of electricity consumption, in accordance with the Law on Electricity. The measure, approved by the latest decisions of NAER Management Board, applies to suppliers Premier Energy S.R.L. and Furnizarea Energiei Electrice Nord and will come into force on January 20. According to the energy regulator, the new differentiated prices allow consumers who have meters with hourly registration to reduce their electricity bill by taking advantage of more favorable tariffs during hourly intervals of low consumption in the electricity system. NAER emphasizes that the application of this system is a right, not an obligation. Each consumer with an hourly usage time meter can decide whether he or she wants to take advantage of differentiated prices. This will help those who want to manage their energy use more efficiently and minimize the impact on their monthly bills. Interested parties are advised to contact their energy supplier for details on how to implement the new system. The new regulated prices approved by NAER establish 2 price ranges: peak hours (7:00 am - 11:00 am), a price reflecting the cost of purchasing energy during peak hours; off-peak hours (11:00 pm - 7:00 am), a lower price reflecting the cost of purchasing energy during overnight load shedding. Time-of-use pricing is already in use in many European countries and is an effective solution for more balanced energy management. For more detailed information, interested consumers can consult the annexes to NAER's solutions, available on the official website www.anre.md, which presents the current prices depending on the category of consumption. NAER emphasizes that differentiated electricity tariffs will save money. By consuming more energy during off-peak hours, consumers can reduce their bills. It also contributes to the stability of the energy system, as balanced distributed consumption during the day reduces the load on the energy infrastructure. NAER said that, with the decision adopted, it continues its efforts to reform the regulatory framework, encouraging measures to optimize electricity consumption and its adaptation to the needs of the energy system, by flattening the load curve. It is stressed that this initiative is an important step towards the modernization of the energy system, which offers real benefits to both household and non-household consumers. // 03.01.2025 - InfoMarket.
