Moldavskaya GRES (MGRES) located in Transnistria stopped supplying electricity to the right bank of the Dniester/Nistru River from January 1, 2025
It also switched to coal-fired power generation. Such actions were taken taking into account the termination of natural gas supply by Gazprom to Transnistria and the end of the contract of Moldavskaya GRES with Energocom. It is planned that the coal reserves, on which 2 power units of MGRES can operate, will be enough for 50 days. During this period, electricity will be generated for humanitarian needs and for the needs of enterprises that ensure food security of Transnistria. Electricity will be supplied to residential houses, social institutions, enterprises that produce food products and organizations that ensure the vital activity of citizens. Transnistrian authorities note that MGRES now generates 105 megawatts of electricity and the Dubasari HPP generates 8 megawatts. Generation will increase as consumption grows. The indicator will undoubtedly increase when the citizens of the Transnistrian region start to actively turn on heating devices. The maximum capacity of the plants is 157 megawatts at MGRES and 24 megawatts at Dubasari HPP. State-owned Energocom reported earlier that after the cessation of electricity supplies from MGRES, which provided most of the consumption of the right bank of the Dniester, the electricity deficit will be covered by increasing local production and imports from Romania. // 02.01.2025 - InfoMarket.
