Romania has become the main supplier of electricity to Moldova from January 1, 2025 - Energocom
The state-owned company said in a statement that in January 2025 it will meet the electricity needs of the right bank of the Dniester/Nistru River through local production and imports from Romania. Thus, the thermal power plants in Chisinau and Balti are expected to produce more than 127 thousand MWh of electricity (about 28% of the total consumption), while 46 thousand MWh will be obtained from renewable energy installations (about 10% of the total). However, as Energocom-e emphasizes, renewable energy sources depend on weather conditions and cannot be considered as reliable and continuous sources. The remaining 62% of the total electricity consumption will be imports from Romania, most of which will be electricity purchased on Romania's OPCOM exchange. Energocom specified that over 178 thousand MWh is planned to be purchased from OPCOM (corresponding to 39% of the demand), and another 105 thousand MWh (23%) through bilateral contracts. Energocom said it was looking for the most optimal contracts for Moldovan consumers, taking into account different consumption during the day/night, working day/rest day, as well as taking into account price offers. Energocom said it will work in cooperation with transmission system operators in Romania and Moldova to ensure that contractual obligations are met. As noted, Moldova's electricity imports from Romania currently depend on commercial capacity allocated at the border. // 02.01.2025 - InfoMarket.
