In Moldova, the production of electricity from renewable sources in 2024 will increase to 860 million kWh, accounting for 20% of the total consumption - Veaceslav Ionita
Economic policy expert at the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) Viitorul reported this, noting that this figure is 2 times higher than last year and 15 times higher than 5 years ago. In particular, 560 million kWh of electricity from renewable sources is produced by 261 local companies developing clean energy business. 300 million kWh are produced by citizens who have installed photovoltaic panels, which already accounts for 7% of the total electricity consumption in the country. Veaceslav Ionita pointed out that while in 2018 only 4 MW of PV panels were installed in Moldova, in 2024 this figure will exceed 200 MW, which is 50 times more than 5 years ago. The expert emphasized that the increase in domestic electricity production reduces the dependence on imports. Small businesses and households contribute to production by democratizing access to energy. This contributes to a greener economy by reducing carbon dioxide emissions. “In just a few years, Moldova has demonstrated that the transition to green energy is possible. Today, sun, wind and water are more than resources - they are our allies in ensuring energy independence. A greener and more sustainable future awaits us! The impressive growth of the renewable energy sector is a clear indication that together we can build a stronger Moldova and less dependent on energy imports. This leap proves that Moldova can become an example for other countries in the region in terms of implementing green energy,” Veaceslav Ionita said. //26.12.2024 - InfoMarket
