Moldova joins the International Solar Alliance (ISA)

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, the agreement on our country's accession to the International Solar Alliance (ISA) was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova Mihail Popșoi during a working visit to New Delhi and a meeting with the Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Thus, Moldova confirmed its commitment to supporting the transition to a greener, more robust and sustainable energy system. Moldova's accession to ISA is the result of a series of discussions between the Secretariat of the International Solar Alliance and the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, which led to the invitation of our country to join this international organization. The signing of the agreement on accession to ISA opened up new opportunities for cooperation between public institutions and the private sector aimed at developing and implementing solar technologies, innovations in the energy sector and promoting research and development. Joining the ISA will also help Moldova achieve its national renewable energy targets, in particular increasing the share of electricity from renewable sources, with a special focus on solar energy. As noted by the Ministry of Energy, among the main objectives of the ISA is the promotion of solar energy and sustainable renewable energy solutions, and our country will gain significant opportunities for international cooperation. Moldova has committed to transition to a more sustainable energy system with the goal of achieving 30% of energy consumption from renewable sources by 2030. In this context, the ISA will help the country develop 510 MW of new renewable energy capacity, a significant part of which will come from solar sources. This is part of the national strategy to reduce dependence on energy imports and reduce carbon emissions. The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is a global platform dedicated to the promotion of solar energy, which strengthens efforts to produce energy from renewable sources to encourage international cooperation and the implementation of projects focused on solar energy production. Among the objectives of ISA are to address common challenges in expanding the use of solar energy, to promote research and development in this area, and to support the financing of innovative technologies in this area. By joining ISA, Moldova becomes the 121st member of this alliance and confirms its commitment to sustainable energy solutions and environmental protection, in line with global trends towards a green transition. // 16.12.2024 — InfoMarket.
