Moldova will expand cooperation with Germany to modernize its energy sector and implement sustainable heating technologies
State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Constantin Borosan stated this while speaking at the 2nd Forum of Sustainable Transition in the Heating Sector, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy Sector of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. According to the Ministry of Energy, the main goal of the Moldovan delegation's visit to Germany is to strengthen the Moldovan-German cooperation in the energy sector and to agree on an Action Plan for the implementation of the Institutional Partnership for Sustainable Heating. At the opening of the Forum, the Energy Ministry's State Secretary stressed the strategic importance of the Moldovan-German cooperation in the efforts to modernize Moldova's energy sector and to implement sustainable heating technologies. He said that Moldova has a great potential in the decarbonization of the heating sector, which is important in the energy transition efforts. It was stressed that home heating accounts for a significant part of Moldova's energy consumption, so the authorities are keen to modernize this sector. “We propose to introduce technologies that reduce dependence on fossil fuels and increase the share of renewable energy by 1.1% annually until 2030. Germany's support and experience are important in our efforts to implement sustainable and efficient solutions in the energy sector,” Constantin Borosan emphasized. He also mentioned the elaboration of a roadmap for sustainable heating in Moldova, which will reflect Moldova's strategic vision on the heating technologies to be used in the medium and long term. At the same time, Moldova's progress in adapting the national legislation to the European norms, which is an important factor for attracting investments in the sector, was highlighted. The visit of the Moldovan delegation will include a series of meetings with a number of high-ranking German officials, including with Environment, Climate and Energy Minister Thekla Walker. Discussions will focus on deepening bilateral cooperation and exploring new joint initiatives in the field of sustainable energy. Consultations will also be held on the Action Plan for the implementation of the Institutional Partnership for Sustainable Heating, recently signed in Chisinau during the visit of the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann. The plan envisages joint initiatives to promote energy efficiency and the integration of renewable energy sources into Moldova's heat supply systems, marking a significant step in the transition to a green economy. The Moldovan delegation in Stuttgart, together with representatives of the Energy Ministry, also includes employees of the thermal energy companies Termoelectrica and CET Nord. The visit was organized with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ Moldova). The German government will invest 5 million euros over the next 3 years in energy efficiency projects, including capacity building of the National Center for Sustainable Energy, as well as the development of the Residential Energy Efficiency Fund, launched this year. // 21.10.2024 - InfoMarket.
