Moldova and the German state of Baden-Württemberg signed a memorandum of agreement in the energy sector
The document was signed in Chisinau by representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Moldova and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Protection and Energy of the state of Baden-Württemberg. According to the Ministry of Energy, the document formalizes the parties' intention to cooperate in the field of sustainable transition of the thermal energy sector and enhancing institutional capacity in the energy sector. In his speech, Energy Minister Victor Parlicov welcomed the productive cooperation between Moldova and Germany, which contributed to the effective management of the crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, as well as strengthening energy security. He confirmed that significant progress in the national energy sector in recent years was possible thanks to the unprecedented support of European partners. The head of the Ministry of Energy specified that Moldova depends on imported energy resources by more than 70%. "For this reason, both our economic competitiveness and the well-being of our citizens depend on how we use energy resources. Germany is a role model in all areas of resource efficiency and climate policy, and we enjoy the support of the German government for Moldova, as well as the opportunity to exchange experiences with German states. Just a few years ago, we could not even imagine that we would move from dependence on one gas supplier to a functioning free market and synchronization with the European electricity system. Energy reforms will certainly contribute to the welfare of Moldova,” the Minister of Energy noted. The German delegation was headed by Winfried Kretschmann, Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg. He welcomed the reforms carried out by the Moldovan authorities in the process of integration into the European Union. Winfried Kretschmann emphasized that our country enjoys all the necessary support to advance reforms, including in the energy sector. “We appreciate all the progress achieved in Moldova in very difficult conditions, when Russia is waging a destructive war with Ukraine on the border. "This war affected us too, because we were dependent on Russian gas, we also felt the impact of the war on inflation. Now the fundamental task is cooperation within the European family, including in the energy sector, and we want to support Moldova on its European way, so that citizens feel all the benefits of this cooperation and have confidence that they will have access to safe and sustainable energy," Winfried Kretschmann said. As noted by the Ministry of Energy, through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the German government will invest 5 million euros in energy efficiency projects in the next 3 years, including strengthening the potential of the National Sustainable Energy Center, as well as in the development of the Energy Efficiency Fund in the Housing Sector, launched this year.// 02.10.2024 – InfoMarket.
