Moldova is entering a new era of natural gas supplies, and will also launch an electronic platform for trading electricity this year - Victor Parlicov.
The Minister of Energy stated this at a meeting in Balti with local authorities. He noted that Moldova is entering a new era of natural gas supplies, and after Russia reduced the volume of gas supplied, our country has not only successfully overcome this situation, but has also advanced in diversifying sources of natural gas supplies. “We have destroyed the myth that Gazprom gives us the best prices, because in 2023 we managed to save our consumers 60 million euros by receiving gas on European markets cheaper than from Gazprom,” he said. The Minister of Energy emphasized the importance of transformations in the energy sector taking place in Moldova. In this context, Victor Parlicov emphasized that over the past 2 years our country has managed to move towards energy security and independence at an unprecedented speed, but the catalyst for change was the war in Ukraine. The head of the Ministry of Energy also recalled that the synchronization of the national electrical system with the European one, ENTSO-E, ensured the stability of the system during Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, while at the same time Moldova advanced in integration into the European electricity market. Victor Parlicov also spoke about the creation of organized energy markets in Moldova, which are managed by a subsidiary of the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM. According to him, an electronic platform for trading electricity will be launched and put into operation this year. The Minister spoke about priorities in the field of energy efficiency, as well as the opportunities that the government is opening for the public and private sectors. In this context, Victor Parlicov shared the priorities of the new program, which will allow access to financing for the energy efficiency of public buildings, and also spoke about the Energy Efficiency Fund in the Residential Sector, which will cover up to 70% of the total costs necessary to implement energy efficiency measures and develop the potential of renewable energy sources. In this regard, the head of the Ministry of Energy gave an example of the tallest building in Balti, a 17-story building in which the heat distribution system was changed to horizontal. Regarding the use of renewable energy sources, the Minister of Energy noted that Moldova could become the first country to demonstrate that the green energy industrialization model is feasible. // 02.05.2024 – InfoMarket.
